Chelsea and Australia striker Sam Kerr sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the club’s warm weather training camp in Morocco.
Kerr, 30, joined Chelsea in 2019 and is a key figure for Emma Hayes’s side with 99 goals in 128 matches.
Chelsea say she will be assessed by a specialist in the coming days and then begin her rehabilitation.
The Blues are currently top of the Women’s Super League, three points ahead of Manchester City.
During her time at Chelsea, Kerr has won four WSL titles, three FA Cups, two Women’s League Cups and the Women’s Community Shield.
The Blues said: “Everyone at Chelsea would like to wish Sam the very best for her recovery.”
