US Open champion Wyndham Clark shot a course-record 60 to storm into the lead in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
The American, 30, holds the third-round lead on 17 under after a stunning 12-under-par round in California.
Clark shot 28 on the front nine, including four birdies and two eagles.
After four birdies and a bogey on the back nine, he missed a 26ft putt for eagle on the par-five 18th that would have given him a 59.
“Even if I had shot 59 somewhere, I don’t think it would compare to shooting a score like this at one of the most historic golf courses in the world,” Clark said.
“To keep the pedal down and to stay aggressive mentally was the most impressive thing to myself.
“Making all those putts was out of the ordinary. It was pretty awesome.”
Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg is a shot behind Clark in second after carding a 67, with France’s Matthieu Pavon one stroke further back following a round of 66.
Belgian Thomas Detry and American world number one Scottie Scheffler, both of whom shared the overnight lead with Aberg, are three shots and four shots behind Clark respectively.
England’s Justin Rose is on 11 under thanks to a 66, while Northern Ireland’s world number two Rory McIlroy, who went round in 69, is two under.
The previous course record of 62 was set by Tom Kite in 1983 and equalled by fellow Americans David Duval in 1997 and Patrick Cantlay in 2021 and Austrian Matthias Schwab in 2022.
