James Maddison has withdrawn from the England squad for November’s Euro 2024 qualifiers with an ankle injury.
The 26-year-old midfielder sustained the injury in Tottenham’s chaotic 4-1 defeat by Chelsea in the Premier League on Monday.
England play Malta at Wembley on Friday, 17 November before travelling to North Macedonia three days later.
Tottenham said Maddison would “remain at Hotspur Way for rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff”.
The club did not say how long they expect the playmaker to be sidelined for.
Maddison has scored three goals and made five assists in 11 Premier League games for Spurs since joining for £40m from Leicester City in June.
He has made five appearances for England and was an unused substitute in the 3-1 victory over Italy in October which secured Euro 2024 qualification for Gareth Southgate’s side with two games to spare.
Tottenham, who are second in the Premier League, travel to Wolves on Saturday (12:30 GMT).
